Hey everybody,
True Detective has been quite a revelation. Instead of wasting Twitter space, I decided to do something I've never done before -- create a forum where we can swap stories/theories/thoughts on this amazing show and what it all means.
Here is my goal: to not have to do any administrating. I don't want to ban anyone and I don't want to deal with BS. IF stuff gets off topic or out of hand, I will merely trash the whole thing.
My idea is that we can just swap links about the series and have a fun debate.
Cool?
Keep it on the up-and-up and we're good.
Enjoy!

Everyone says how much they appreciate the visual style of the show, but as someone who downloads it and watches it on an 11-inch chromebook, I don't see the appeal.

Happy to see this created after just doing some research as I can't get the show out of my head. I started doing some research on the King in Yellow stories and then thought of the following: Does anyone remember when Cohle told Marty at the bar that he went to Paris? Of the 4 short stories that include the "The King in Yellow" forbidden play in the book KIY, the 1st and 4th take place in a future America (1920ish) and the 2nd and 3rd take place in Paris. It was interesting that Cohle told Marty he went to Paris. In the 3rd short story from the KIY book, a man who is captured awakes at an abandoned church, and we already know that an abandoned church is a part of the story so far with clues/references to the yellow king. The 4th story is centered around the creepy actions of a Church Watchmen, which leads me to believe that the preacher man we noted should play a prevelant part going forward (not to mention that I would be suprised if Shea Whigham played parts for only 1 scene of a tv show when his current resume includes Eli Thompson and a role in American Hustle).

I love the show, and it has basically gripped me since episode one. I want to think the end of episode 5 wasn't a sign, but I honestly think they've got 1-2 more tricks up their sleeves. Can't wait!

Appreciate you setting this up, it should be interesting. I think I'm making a mistake paying attention to Twitter while I watch since I have a sneaking suspicion I should be paying much closer attention than I am. It's like "Lost"--it's so dense and layered I'm not sure how it can be followed without watching it in large multi-episode chunks.

I thought the same thing as far as the actor (the preacher) being too big for that very limited role. Also, he crossed himself backwards (at least by current religious standards) and according to some, did it upside down? Rust did discuss Paris with the blind date at the western dance bar. I'm not the kind to go back and watch things multiple times....but I may have to start!

I love shows like this that make me hope that the rest of the week goes by quickly so I can see the next episode to find out what happens. There has only been several shows like that for me. Love the anticipation waiting for the show to be on, and the angst as I am watching each episode.

Anyone read the lyrics to The kris Kristofferson song Casey's Last Ride that was playing in the Sportsmanship bar in the beginning of episode 5. At the end of the song Casey goes into a bar called The Golden Crown. I also think there's powerful people involved in this crime and I'm starting to think Marty might be the monster at the end of the dream.

Great forum! Len, I heard your analysis on Mac & Spiegs' show earlier today. Good stuff! Looking forward to swapping observations and theories. TD seriously is the best thing going on TV right now. Best thing for a long time IMO.
