Never thought about Rust's 2012 interview being inadmissible once he started drinking. Cool detail that I'm surprised Gilbough and Papania allowed.

When Rust calls a time-out in the 1st episode because he wants his beer, Papania tells him he can't do that. He responds with, "What? Is this admissible?...You pick a guy's brain, you offer him a cheeseburger & a Coke, right?" Since they've brought him in under the guise that he's just there to talk about old cases, Papania okays the beer.
But Gilbaugh almost blows that be bringing up the fact that nobody has seen Rust in years, & then he pops back up around the same time as the Lake Charles murder, which causes Papania to cut him off and try to keep things on track.

That is telling. It tells me Rust knows right off the bat that he's a person of interest and is protecting his right to remain silent while he gets the read on them.
